Privacy policy

Who we are

Barkeep Cocktails makes canned cocktails in Nova Scotia. Questions about your information go to hello@barkeepcocktails.ca.

Newsletter

If you sign up, we keep your email address to send you our newsletter, about once a month. Signups are handled by our email provider, Brevo: you confirm by email before anything is sent, and every email has an unsubscribe link. Brevo also keeps a record of when and how you agreed to receive it, so we can show you asked for it.

Our newsletter emails record when you open them and which links you click. Brevo does this with a tiny image in each email and with links made for each reader, and it can show us the time, the device and browser, and the country. We use it to see which emails and links people find useful. If you'd rather not be tracked, unsubscribe: we then send you nothing more.

Brevo stores our mailing list in the European Union, in France, Germany and Belgium. Brevo's own teams in the United States and India can work on it there to support and maintain the service.

When you unsubscribe, we keep only your email address, on a do-not-email list, so we never write to you again. We delete everything else Brevo holds about you, including the opens and clicks.

Orders

When the merch shop opens, we'll need your name, email and delivery address to fill your order.

[TODO: the shop provider, payment handling and how long order records are kept.]

Analytics and cookies

This site doesn't use analytics or advertising cookies yet. If we add them (such as Google Analytics or the Meta pixel), they'll only run after you agree to them.

The site does remember two things in your own browser, and never sends them to us: whether you chose the day or night look, and, until you close the browser, your answer to whether you're 19 or older.

[TODO: update once tracking is chosen.]

Website logs

Cloudflare, which hosts this site and its images, records each visit's IP address, browser type and the page asked for, to keep the site running and secure.

The visit details Cloudflare shows us go back at most 31 days. Cloudflare also keeps its own records for running its network. Its privacy policy gives no fixed period for those: it keeps them as long as its purposes or the law need, then deletes them.

Where your information is processed

Some of the companies that run services for us store or process your information outside Canada, where the law of that country applies to it.

  • Brevo, our newsletter: in the European Union, with Brevo's teams in the United States and India able to work on it.
  • Cloudflare, which hosts this site and its images: mainly in the United States and the European Union, and it may reach the data from other countries where it works.
  • Supabase, our database: in Canada, in its Canada (Central) region, backups included. Its support team works around the world and looks at our data only when we ask for help or to deal with a security problem.
  • Fly.io, which runs the server behind this site's content on a Sprite, one of its virtual machines. Fly.io picks the region a Sprite runs in; we can't choose it.

[TODO: the server's region, once we've confirmed where Fly.io placed it.]

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and you can ask us to show, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing hello@barkeepcocktails.ca.
